Happy Halloween!

Me and my favorite girls heading out for a night of trick or treating.

Aren't these little hotdog mummies so cute? So easy to make. Just take pillsbury crescent roll dough, lay entire sheet flat while pressing all perforated seams closed. Cut into narrow strips using a pizza cutter and wrap around the length of the hotdog leaving an open space for the face and bake. The cute little eyes are simply tasty dots of mustard.
Adorable!

Vintage Ruler - Growth Chart

Thought I'd share my latest project.  A vintage style Wooden Ruler Growth Chart I made for my Grandaughter, Madison.

When my kids were growing up, we marked many a wall with their heights...such a joy to see how much taller they were month to month.  Sad part was they were left at the various houses we moved from...all so someone else could probably paint over them.

This is the perfect solution...hang it up and take it with you.  Always yours to reflect and cherish.

Lil' Painted French Sign - Before & After

Hello!
We recently took down those ugly 80's Hollywood lights that wrapped around our kitchen above the cupboards...You know them - those nasty fluorescent lights.  With a blank slate I decided I'd like something to hang over the bulkhead.

I had an interesting piece that sat atop an old dresser which I wasn't using.  I loved the details and the scale was just right. So I went to work on it.  Here is the after

This was how it started out....not bad right?

I first gave it a few coats of "Bon Voyage" (a really pretty blue)
I sanded inbetween, roughed it up and placed packing tape randomly along the entire piece and pulled it off while the paint was still tacky which gave a nice weathered, chippy, peeling effect.

I decided on "Cafe de Provence" for the lettering since I love anything French :)
I spaced it out on my computer and printed it out.  I did the old trick of penciling out the back and tracing over the letters to transfer it to the wood.  Finished it up by painting the letters with.....

Don't laugh...

A SHARPIE MARKER!  The horror (lol).  There is no way my steadiness, let alone my patience would have allowed me to use a fine brush.

Before and After ::: From Worn Church Pew to Best Seat in the House

My ex told me about a bench in a little antique shop in Utica. So on Saturday morning my husband took a ride with me to check it out. I've been wanting a bench for my dining room it seems - forever. When we got there - the one we specifically went to see was all spindles and totally uncomfortable to sit on. Discouraged, we toured the rest of the shop. Then...tucked in a little hallway I saw it. A gorgeous little church pew just waiting to be discovered.

It was coming home with us.  We lifted it into the Jeep and tied it down.  I couldn't wait to get home and get started!  After digging out the paint, running out for new brushes, hitting a local craft show with my daughter, I lost steam and my husband took over the painting and finished it all (gotta love him).

I hit the computer and started to search out some appliques.  I found these on Ebay and within the week they were at my front door.  I didn't have any clamps so I glued them on and taped them down to set.
My daughter came by and said it looked like a pile of cheerios!  I had faith :)

After putting on two coats of paint I stood back and thought - This is the best seat in the house!

Oh yeah...see the white streak on the plum coloured wall to the left?  That's the start of a white wall makeover underway.  Decided to paint the entire house white....YIPPEE!

Updated photo after painting the walls white :)

Crazy Cool Wordle for Shabby Chic Love

Thank you all for the nice comments about my soon to be grand-baby.  I've missed posting here but we had a great time in New Jersey.  It seemed like just yesterday that I had lived there...not muched has changed - with the landscape that is.  My daughter, well she looks great and is now showing ...too fun.

Since I haven't really prepared a post I thought I'd give a neat little app you may not have heard of.  All you "wordies" should love it.  It's called Wordle.  What you may not know about me is that I own a Home Staging company, and I came across this site when trying to make an interesting sign for a trade show I did.

Here is one I created for my love of shabby chic...

Isn't that crazy cool?

Here are some tips when creating your wordle:

1.  The more times you type a word - the larger the word prints
2.  You can have it run in different directions - this one was 1/2 horizontal and 1/2 vertical
3.  You can change fonts, colours and background colours (of course I love the black & white)
4.  If you also love numbers 123 (for example) go into language and check "show numbers"
5.  If you want more than one word to stay grouped together use this symbol ~ between the words as in Shabby~Whites
6.  You can also input your blog addy or any other website address and it will pull the words directly from it

Here are some examples from the gallery (not mine)

~Obama speech~

~create one for Mother's Day using words that describe your Mom...I framed one as a thank you gift to my business coach using words that described her and she loved it~

~earth day~

Have fun with it, and let me know how yours turns out.

Chalkboard DIY - Perfect for Wordies

A new project came to mind incorporating my love of words. I'm a self proclaimed "wordy". Chalkboards are perfect for die hard wordies because in a moment they can be changed out as inspiration hits.

Armed with a foam brush and a can of chalkboard paint, my kitchen cupboard would become my muse. I can't lie...when the first stroke of black paint slid across my pristine white cabinet I had a moment of uh~oh. Determined to go on, I completed the two coats required. Waiting for it to dry my uncertainty turned into anticipation. What would my first scribbles be...

Since Paris has always been my dream destination, the image portion at the top was a no brainer.  To sketch the Fleur de Lis I had to cheat.  I printed the image on paper - then I traced it over with a heavy hand of chalk.  After placing it where I wanted, I rubbed the back of the paper - easily transfering the image.

These great little chalk holders purchased from staples were looped onto some ribbon and strung on the end of the cabinet...ready to use.  A little retro looking, they remind me of school days.

So what do you think?  Are you tempted to try it out on your cabinets or should I have stopped at uh-oh?
